Glowworms are something most Kiwis grew up with but are surprised to learn that they’re extremely rare in other countries. The ancient limestone caves are home to millions of twinkling glowworms including the famous Milky Way cavern that you’ll learn all about from your friendly guide.

We then drive through to the Birthplace of the Nation, where we are met by our guide to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. Later we are welcomed into the beautifully carved meeting house, Te Whare Runanga, for a cultural performance.

Cross the Southern Alps and the stunning Canterbury High Country to enjoy a farewell lunch and farm tour with Kate and Duncan Calder at LongHill Station and hear about their way of life farming sheep and cattle. Then cross the plains into the ‘Garden City’ of Christchurch.

  • The engineering marvel of the Otira Viaduct
  • Short walk at Arthur’s Pass
  • Hosted high country lunch with Kate & Duncan Calder at LongHill Station
  • Say goodbye to your guide and group in the ‘Garden City’

Full description

Wake up to the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach, cross New Zealand’s main divide, travel over the stunning Canterbury High Country and cross the plains into the ‘Garden City’ of Christchurch.

Highlights include the Otira Viaduct, a spectacular cantilevered road through towering mountains to Arthur’s Pass National Park one of the best places in the country to see the hilarious antics of our alpine parrot, the Kea. Stretch your legs in the beech forests at Arthur’s Pass National Park then enjoy our farewell lunch and farm tour with Kate & Duncan Calder at LongHill Station. We reach Christchurch in the late afternoon to say our goodbyes with drop offs at Christchurch Airport or your city accommodation.

How to Book and Pay for Your MoaTrek Tour

Once you’ve chosen your tour and departure date, we’ve made booking your adventure easy – just the way travel should feel. Here’s how it all works:

Step 1: Choose Your Room Type

Single Room
A Single means one person has their own room throughout the tour.  This is for solo travellers, or for two or more friends travelling together who each want their own room.

Twin Share
Twin Share means two people travelling together, sharing one room. After you book we’ll confirm the bed configuration you would like – either a double room (1 bed, usually queen or king) or a twin room (2 separate beds).

Step 2: Secure Your Spot with a Deposit

Securing your place is easy – simply book online through our secure system with a 20% deposit.  We’ll calculate the deposit amount as you add a tour to the cart.

  • We accept Visa and Mastercard
  • No card fees apply on deposit payments

Deposits are non-refundable and once paid, you’ll receive a confirmation email and you can start looking forward to your Kiwi adventure!

Sometimes You’ll Need to ‘Enquire’ First
If your chosen tour is close to departure, or nearly full, you’ll only see an option to ‘Enquire’.

When this happens, use the ‘Enquire’ button to send us a message, and we’ll guide you through the next steps.

Step 3: Pay Your Balance 120 Days Before Departure

The remaining balance of your tour is due 120 days before your tour begins.

  • We’ll email you an invoice when the time comes.
  • Pay by credit card, or bank transfer.
  • Depending on your chosen payment method there may be additional transaction fees at time of payment.

Booking Within 120 Days of Departure?
If you book a tour that’s departing within the next 120 days, you’ll receive your invoice for the remaining balance the day after you pay your deposit. This ensures everything is confirmed in plenty of time.

Booking for 5 or more people?
If you’re booking for a group of 5 or more, please contact us so we can make sure everything is arranged perfectly for your party – including accommodation and logistics.
